Worked example: sod around a garden bed

Subtract a bed from a lawn and convert the remaining area into rolls and a practical pallet combination.

This is a hypothetical measurement example, not a completed customer project or a construction specification.

The measured plan95 rolls, or 1 full pallet plus 25 rolls if sold separately.

How the estimate is built

  1. The 1,000 sq ft rectangle minus the 100 sq ft bed leaves 900 sq ft of sod area.
  2. A 5% cutting allowance produces 945 sq ft to cover; at 10 sq ft per roll, round up to 95 rolls.
  3. If the supplier sells loose rolls, 95 rolls can be one full 70-roll pallet plus 25 rolls.

Before buying

Ask for the exact roll coverage, pallet count, loose-roll availability, delivery timing, and locally suitable sod type.
