Short answer: Round the area to whole sod rolls first. A whole-pallet equivalent is a separate packaging comparison; the best actual order depends on whether the farm sells loose rolls.

Area comes first
Once the installable area is measured, add your cutting allowance. Divide that adjusted area by the coverage printed for the supplier’s sod unit, then round up.
Pallets are a packaging question
Divide required rolls by rolls per pallet and round up only if you must order whole pallets. A supplier may sell a full pallet plus individual rolls, which can reduce surplus. Ask before assuming the rounded pallet count is your required purchase.
Coordinate timing
Sod is perishable. The planner handles quantities; plan soil preparation, delivery, and installation together. A regional extension guide can help with care practices appropriate to your location.
Hypothetical worked example
For 900 sq ft plus 5% cutting allowance, plan for 945 sq ft. At 10 sq ft per roll, buy 95 rolls. If a pallet holds 70 rolls, that can be one pallet plus 25 loose rolls when the supplier sells them.
Which situation matches your project?
Limit to check: Roll area and rolls per pallet vary by product. Replace both example values with the farm’s published or quoted numbers.
