Fence Material Planner

Place multiple gates on each run and estimate posts, rails or panels, pickets, post-hole concrete, fasteners, and cost.

Change the starting values to match your site and the product you plan to buy.

Changing units converts your entered measurements.

1. Sketch your fence runs

Enter each straight run. Add up to six gates on a run with a width and start position for every opening. The diagram checks their order and shows the resulting posts.

2. Set the fence material

Use the actual board dimensions and the maximum bay spacing for your plan.

Compare two options

Calculate with one set of inputs, save it as A, then change the design or supplier values and save B. Both options stay on this device.

How this calculation works

YardSetup keeps the measured amount separate from the quantity you may need to purchase. Enter product dimensions and supplier figures where they differ from the starting values.

Split each run at every gate opening. Bays = the sum of ceiling(solid span length ÷ maximum spacing) across the remaining spans. Pickets use each span’s length, board width and gap, then waste.

A quick example

A 96 ft run with one 4 ft gate starting at 46 ft has two 46 ft solid spans. At an 8 ft maximum, each span needs six bays.

This is a planning estimate. Review the inputs and confirm material specifications, local conditions, and delivery units before ordering.
