Worked example: a fence run with a gate

Estimate material for a 96-foot run with one 4-foot gate and identify what the site sketch must confirm.

This is a hypothetical measurement example, not a completed customer project or a construction specification.

The measured plan14 posts, 36 rails, 223 pickets, and 41 concrete bags.
96 ft total run · 92 ft coveredG196 ft14 posts · 12 bays · 1 gates

How the estimate is built

  1. A 4-foot gate leaves 92 feet of picket-covered fence.
  2. The calculator estimates bays from covered length and maximum spacing, then accounts for endpoints and the gate.
  3. Pickets use their face width and the selected waste allowance; concrete uses hole volume minus approximate post displacement.

Before buying

Mark the exact gate location and every corner, then check spans, post-hole design, hardware, boundaries, and local requirements.
